Please join us for worship, fellowship, and Christian Education this Sunday, March 30, as we observe The Fourth Sunday in Lent. We’ll have a service of Holy Communion at 8am, followed by fellowship at 9, Sunday School at 9:15, and a second Service of Holy Communion at 10:30, in the sanctuary and online. In some liturgical circles, the Fourth Sunday of Lent is referred to as Laetare Sunday, the Latin meaning, “Rejoice.” This week, it’s the particular joy of repentance and reconciliation. While it’s not quite time to invite back the Easter alleluias, the liturgy this week has a particularly lighter cast – a week of respite before we steer towards the events of Holy Week. Please note that we’ll be receiving a Joyful Giving Offering for Food for the Poor at both services, this Sunday.
Sunday’s Psalmody sets the tone: “Happy are they whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sin is put away!” Happy are those who have “become the righteousness of God” in the merits of Christ Jesus. Happy are those for whom the forgiveness of God has “rolled away . . . the disgrace” of former times. Happy is the father at the return of his prodigal son. Happy are we that our sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake. Rejoice!

Thank you: Thanks to the members of our Music Ministry who are assiduously preparing for Holy Week and Easter. Our singers have been trying a new rehearsal time at 5pm, which has everyone home much earlier in the evening, and, during Lent, singers can rehearse, have a soup supper, attend the Midweek Lenten Service and be home before 8. This seems to be going very well! The Handbell Choir just about has our Easter piece mastered, and we’ve read two-thirds of the way through a new piece for Good Friday. We’re also excited to have the Sunday School Children sing on Easter Sunday at the 9:30am service. Things are really coming together for what promises to be a memorable Holy Week and Easter!
Join us for soup and bread in a communal meal each week at 6pm. Here we will share the bounty that God provides us with one another in much the way that Jesus and his disciples did in their daily lives. We will support one another in our Christian faith and Lenten practice with fellowship and community. This will be immediately followed by Midweek Lenten worship service. This year we will be looking at Christ Condemned: the Prosecution of Jesus.
