Please join us for worship, fellowship, and Christian Education this Sunday, March 9, as we observe The First Sunday in Lent We’ll have a service of Holy Communion at 8am, followed by fellowship at 9, Sunday School at 9:15, and a second Service of Holy Communion at 10:30, in the sanctuary and online.
These forty days called Lent are like no other. It is our opportune time to return to the God who rescues, to receive the gifts of God’s grace, to believe with the heart and confess with the mouth the wonder of God’s love in Jesus, and to resist temptation at every turn. This is no small pilgrimage on which we have just embarked. It is a struggle Jesus knew. It is a struggle Jesus shares. The nearness of the Lord, in bread and wine, water and word, will uphold and sustain us.

Thank you: Many thanks to our Sunday School Students and their teachers for their excellent participation and leadership in this past Sunday’s 10:30am Service. We had students serve as readers and intercessors, and the whole group, from grades preK-6, sang “This Little Light of Mine,” especially fitting on Transfiguration Sunday. Thanks, also, to April Phares for coordinating, to Pam Kalapay for her beautiful playing and singing, and to the Handbell Choir, for their musical offering, as well. The Handbells are delighted to add Jan Williams to our ranks – she’s swiftly gotten the hang of things and brought our numbers to 7, which means we can play two-octave repertoire. Bravi tutti! Thanks also to our Boy Scouts and their leaders for joining us to be recognized as part of that busy service. Finally, thanks to Phil Pratt, Sr., and family for the lovely gift to Pastor Spencer of a new stole, which we dedicated at the 8am Service on this past Sunday. It’s beautiful and will surely serve its purpose well!
March Joyful Giving: Food for the Poor is one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the United States that ministers to the poorest of the poor in primarily 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. By providing lifesaving food, secure housing, clean water, healthcare, emergency relief, micro-enterprise projects and education opportunities, they are giving the poor a chance at a better future, and showing them God’s love. You can learn more about Food for the Poor by clicking here.
Please note that we’ll have a Joyful Giving offering at the beginning of the services on Sunday, March 30. You may also give in the basket in the Narthex, on the Vanco app or on the giving page of our website.
Easter Sponsorships: It’s time to arrange flower and music sponsorships for Easter! Please find forms either in the Narthex or in the linked below, and return to the parish office with your payment by Sunday, March 23. We’re seeking sponsors for specific flowers, as you’ll see on the form, and also those who would like to make a more general gift to help fund supplies and additional floral items for Holy Week, and also our Easter Sunday trumpeter. As always, depending on how the plants grow, we may have to make some substitutions. Many thanks for your patience and flexibility!
Join us for soup and bread in a communal meal each week at 6pm. Here we will share the bounty that God provides us with one another in much the way that Jesus and his disciples did in their daily lives. We will support one another in our Christian faith and Lenten practice with fellowship and community. This will be immediately followed by Midweek Lenten worship service. This year we will be looking at Christ Condemned: the Prosecution of Jesus.
