Please join us for worship, fellowship, and Christian Education this Sunday, November 3, All Saints Sunday. Please note that Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, and we’ll fall back on Saturday night. We’ll have a service of Holy Communion at 8am, followed by fellowship at 9, Sunday School at 9:15, and a second Service of Holy Communion at 10:30. Then, in the early afternoon, we’ll have the Blessing of the Animals in the Grove, beginning at 1pm. Please read below for more details.
Of all three years of the lectionary cycle, this year’s All Saints readings have the most tears. Isaiah and Revelation look forward to the day when God will wipe away all tears; in John’s gospel, Jesus weeps along with Mary and all the gathered mourners before he demonstrates his power over death. On All Saints Day we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead, but we grieve for our beloved dead as well, knowing that God honors our tears. We bring our grief to the table and find there a foretaste of Isaiah’s feast to come.

Blessing of the Animals: Even though the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi is past, we’d love to have a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday afternoon, November 3, beginning at 1 pm. Pastor Spencer will be on hand to bless your pets in the Grove. Please join us for what promises to be a fun and meaningful afternoon (Pastor Spencer continues to live in hope that someone will bring a horse)!
Thank you! Thanks to the Christian Education Committee for sponsoring the fellowship time following Stephen Polgar’s confirmation. Thanks also to the Marano Family, Joanne, Louis, Lydia, and Johanna, who have concluded their monthly rotation on Altar Guild for October, and for those who have been helping us through all the parament color changes in the last few weeks!
Poinsettia Orders: It’s time to begin placing orders for Christmas poinsettias! We’re going to procure our flowers from Filchner’s Plants and Produce, details are included on the form linked below. The firm deadline is Sunday, November 17. We have also included a proviso on the form stating that we will do our best to honor the preferences for color reflected on the order, but because of vagaries in the growing process, our provider sometimes needs to make substitutions. The plants are always of the highest quality, but we want everyone to know that occasionally substitutions are made, and we thank you in advance for your patience. Printed forms are also available in the Narthex.
Please follow this link to the order form. Again, the FIRM DEADLINE is November 17.
